5 Reasons Why 4-H is Lifelong

1.   Education :   4-H is education for life that uses a hands-on approach.   4-H prepares youth for higher education and potential careers by emphasizing life skills such as problem solving and critical thinking.   When members participate in activities such as creating a project or developing a nutritional plan for livestock, learning is taking place without being noticed.   4-H has a special way of creating many learning experiences that are fun and engaging for 4-H members.   It has been proven that 4-H members are two times more likely to get better grades in school and are two times more likely to attend college than individuals that don’t partake in 4-H. 2.   Companionship:   4-H members share many common interests with one another such as static projects, livestock, or working exhibits.   There is always another 4-H or family member that shares the same interests.   Common interests are quite often the foundation for ...

Thankful for 4-H

Thanksgiving is a special time to be thankful for the opportunities we are given and the people who have influenced our lives. We are approaching the holiday season and want to take the time to reflect on what we are thankful for in our life . Among many things that we have to be thankful for this year, we would like to take the time to give a special thanks to 4-H. We would like to take time to reach out and recognize members in our community that have made our 4-H experiences successful and helped to create great memories. 4-H Members: Thank you for everything you do. You are the reason we do what we do. Without you, 4-H would not exist. You dedication to the 4-H program, your hard-work and your talents do not go unnoticed. 4-H'ers for 4-H Campaign

4-H'ers for 4-H is an annual campaign conducted by youth members of the State 4-H Council Finance Committee. 4-H Clubs across the sate are encouraged to donated $2.50 per 4-H member. Funds raised from this campaign benefit financial aid, State 4-H Conference, and other projects as voted upon by the State 4-H Council. The Iowa 4-H Foundation doesn't know of any other state where 4-H'ers actively raises money for their 4-H program. This year, 356 clubs participated representing 79 counties. Counties and clubs were recognized for: -Top County Per Member -Most Improved Giving County -Top County -Top Area And your winners are.... The 2013 Top County Per Member Award went to Wright County with $4.98 per member, with Webster County in second at $4.48 per member and Worth County in third with $4.26 per member.   The Most Improved Giving County award is given to counties that increase their contributions by the highest percentage over the previous year. Iowa 4-H Foundation Awards 2013 Iowa 4-H College Scholarships

            The Iowa 4-H Foundation recently awarded 77 college scholarships valued at $61,500.   Fifty-nine of those scholarships were presented last Sunday, June 9, at the Extension 4-H Youth Building on the campus of Iowa State University. A total of 19 DuPont Pioneer Community College 4-H Scholarships valued at $9,500 and 40 4-H Scholarships from many generous donors valued at an astounding $34,000 were awarded. The 59 scholarship recipients were 4-H’ers from across the state, with 35 counties represented. These Iowa 4-H individuals will be attending an accredited university, college, or community college in the state of Iowa in the fall of 2013. Below are this year’s 59 4-H Scholarships in alphabetic order by county in which the recipient participated in 4-H.
